The UNWG Geneva provides financial support for projects worldwide, dedicated to improving living conditions, healthcare, and education for disadvantaged children, and empowering women through vocational training and skills development. These micro-projects are designed to be completed within six months, with a maximum funding allocation of CHF 6,000 per project.
Funding applications are submitted by UNWG Geneva members and are carefully reviewed by the V-P Projects. Final approval for funding is granted by the UNWG Executive Committee.
To date, the UNWG Geneva has financed over 2,000 projects in more than 100 countries, using funds raised through the UNWG Annual International Bazaar, including proceeds from lottery ticket sales.
2019 Egypt
ALHASSAN FOUNDATION FOR DIFFERENTLY ABLED INCLUSION aims to lead the differently abled persons to physical and financial independence by providing them wheelchairs, sport activities, professional training, equipped motorcycles to facilitate their mobility.
2019 Guatemala
FUDI foundation provides training programs to poor people in rural areas so that they can generate sustainable income. The aim of the program is to help young indigenous women to develop entrepreneurial skills in order to enter the labor markets. These beneficiaries are taking workshops in bakery, embroidery, and handicraft so they can sell their creations in the Guatemala market. Funds were used to buy kitchen and computer equipment.
2019 Haiti
Fédération des Ecoles Protestantes d’Haiti (FEPH) est une Association qui essaie de trouver des financements aux écoles en Haïti pour permettre à un grand nombre d’enfants d’avoir accès à l’instruction. L’objectif du projet est de fournir du mobilier de classe à une école primaire de la Commune de “Gonâve” à Haïti pour augmenter la capacité d’accueil et permettre aux élèves de milieux défavorisés d’être dans de bonnes conditions pour apprendre.
2019 India
Rampyari Kanya Pathshala is the first girls’ school in Dibai, Uttar Pradesh. The government provides the minimum as the salary of teachers and other supporting staff. The school lacks resources to provide good education to the pupils who come from low income families. The goal of the project is to develop computer skills by establishing a computer lab, provide safe drinking water, renovate an old roof and build a sports complex.
2019 Indonesia
Biruku Indonesia Foundation helps autistic children with their families by providing them treatment, education, basic life skills, giving advice to parents on how to deal with their children. The project has been able to equip the premises with tools for indoor and outdoor activities.
2019 Lebanon
Borderless has been working with Syrian refugee children in Beirut since 2015. The organization seeks to create an educational opportunity for these children who have no access to formal education. They hold vocational workshops with the aim of training them and providing a chance at a sustainable source of income. They have integrated a music class into the learning centre curriculum – to enhance the children’s creativity and imagination, develop their self-confidence, explore hidden talents, overcome trauma and learn the discipline and responsibility that comes with music.
2019 Mauritius
Le Kolektif Rivier Nwoir, réunissant les principaux acteurs sociaux de la région de Rivière Noire, s’occupe de la gestion des projets sociaux intervenant dans les domaines de l’éducation, du logement et de la famille. L’objectif du projet est de mettre sur pied un atelier de ravanne (tambourin) qui, étant une activité très prisée par les jeunes, pourrait être utilisée comme moyen d’intégrer les enfants dans les ateliers de lecture et d’écriture. Les fonds ont servi à l’achat du matériel pour les classes de ravanne et d’alphabétisation.
2019 Mongolia
Taran Urguu is an NGO established to contribute to improved living and learning conditions for nomad women and their children. This project seeks to improve access to sports and physical activities in the Gurvanbulag Public School – which serves 600 children, mostly nomads and herders. Funds will be used for the purchase of sports equipment.
2019 Morocco
L’association El Baraka Angels a été créée en 2013 pour venir en aide aux populations en situation précaire et contribuer à leur développement socio-économique et culturel. Le but est d’offrir l’accès à l’eau aux 70 jeunes filles qui habitent trop loin de l’école et résident à la maison d’étudiants de Dayet Aoua dans la province d’Ifrane.
2019 Nepal
Gautam School is a private NGO, nonsectarian educational institution in an area badly affected by the earthquake and subsequently the latest monsoon. It has an extensive social services outreach program and will be managing any funding provided by the UNWG. The project is to support three needy schools and encourage children, especially girls to attend school. Schools here are extremely poor, where there are high rates of malnutrition, leprosy,etc. Earthquake damage is still prevalant and many schools and teaching materials have been damaged in the latest flooding.
2019 Nigeria
The Lagoon Institute of Hospitality Studies is a project of the Nigerian Association for Women’s Advancement for young female school leavers interested in a two-year training program in hospitality and tourism. It also runs other social projects. Funds were used to upgrade the teaching equipment and the building maintenance equipment.
2019 Pakistan
SUNBEAMS is a network of high-quality, low-cost private schools for low-income and disadvantaged children. It is a social enterprise that uses a sliding fee structure to allow access to education to out-of school children. It operates 13 schools in rural and peri-urban locations, educating over 1300 children and training over 100 teachers. Funds used for training material and teacher resource material as well as for training workshops.
2019 Palestinian Territories
AL-SHARIFA Hospital is the largest medical complex and central hospital in the Gaza strip. It includes the Prince Nayef Centre for Radiodiagnostics and Radiotherapy established in 2004 to serve cancer patients. The aim of the project is to establish system for computerizing and archiving the radiographic image reading system.
2019 Peru
PROSIP – CONDORAY (Centro de Formacion Profesional para la Mujer) is a non-profit organisation whose aim is to promote community education through teaching, radio schools and trade schools. Funds were used for the vocational training program in administration of hostelry services: set-up a closed-circuit TV in the cooking demonstration classroom so that more students can attend the program, and new furniture for the canteen where students develop their dining service skills, increasing the capacity from 65 to 90 seats.
2019 Peru
“Centro Shama – Ninos de la Calle” est une institution civile, créée en 1999 pour accueillir les enfants des rues entre 8 et 10 ans. Maintenant, elle accueille aussi bien les tout petits pour un total de 30 enfants (nombre limité par le gouvernement). Les fonds sont utilisés pour mise en oeuvre du réfectoire (meubles), renforcement de la sécurité (caméras) et amélioration du bienêtre des petits (rénovation de berceaux et matelas).
